New Volunteering Scheme at Stoke Mandeville Stadium
We have launched a new Activity Buddies scheme for people who would like support while taking part in fitness activities at the centre. Activity Buddies are there to provide you with company, encouragement and a friendly face to enjoy your session with.
We are welcoming a wide range of people onto the scheme, including those with, but not limited to:
- dementia,
- anxiety,
- reduced mobility,
- mental health,
- covid-related conditions.
If you already know someone you would like to be your buddy, they can be your Activity Buddy. But if you don’t know anyone to buddy up with, don’t fret, the scheme can pair you with someone who has volunteered to be an Activity Buddy.
How do you know if ‘Activity Buddies’ is for you?
If you would answer ‘yes’ to the question, ‘do you think you might benefit from having an Activity Buddy to talk to and exercise with?’, then this scheme is definitely for you.
If you would answer ‘yes’ to the question ‘can you see yourself being the friendly face for someone who needs company and support when they exercise?’, then this scheme is also for you. If you would like to put yourself forward to be a buddy to someone who doesn’t have one, that would be wonderful!
The benefit of having an Activity Buddy
As a participant on the scheme, you benefit from greatly reduced entry prices to help you to take steps to improving your overall health and wellbeing. If you already know someone you could buddy with, that’s great, you can register to participate together!
The benefit of being an Activity Buddy
If you would like to volunteer some of your time and make a difference to someone’s life, we would love to hear from you. We feel Activity Buddies are so important, so when you are accompanying someone as an Activity Buddy, you will not pay an entry fee. In addition, we are giving you a little thank you for your time. For every hour you are an Activity Buddy, you get a free hour of swim, gym or a workout class session to use whenever you like.
